My name is Ben Whipple. Yes. Whipple.
Despite having one of the most infamous names in advertising I did almost everything I could to avoid it. I’ve been an actor. Highlights include playing several medieval knights on the History Channel, an Axe BodySpray Commercial, and playing a hipster in a reality TV show called… Hipsters.
I also played bass guitar in a few rock bands. I recorded 7 albums with 3 bands, toured Western Canada, and played a bunch of shows at Burning Man. Alas, while serious fun was had, a living wage was not.
Adrift, I turned towards my lifelong obsession with surfing. I indulged in a multi-year deep-dive into surf travel, surf culture, and surf journalism. I traveled the world, lived in New Zealand, scored flawless waves, and sported an excellent tan. Still, I yearned for a more creative path.
Then I found Advertising. The industry that gave my grandfather a stomach ulcer.
Now I’ve worked on brands like Samsung, Wells Fargo, WhatsApp, Kraken Rum, AT&T, Macy’s, Herdez Salsa… You get it. BRANDS. Big brands with big needs that can give you a stomach ache if you’re not careful.
Oh. And in case you’re still wondering… I’ve never squeezed the Charmin.
